Volleyball

There has been a very long tradition of volleyball being played in Mary Immaculate Secondary School over the years. It was begun by Dympna O'Donohue in the early 1980's. When John Sims joined the staff, Dympna and John both coached volleyball. They then decided to play competitive volleyball by taking part in the VAI schools competition. They took part in both boys and girls volleyball at all three age groups. Over the years they had great success winning the All Ireland title at all age groups for both boys and girls.

A number of years ago John retired from coaching due to a back injury. In recent years a number of former volleyball players that he had coached revived the sport in the school. They have been taking part again in competitions successfully.

As well as being a competitive sport, students are coached in the basics of the sport by Emma Slattery in PE classes.

This year unfortunately due to Covid 19 there will be no competitions, but hopefully they will resume in the next academic year.
