In Mary Immaculate the Transition Year Programme is a very popular option for post Junior Cert students. It is a one year programme that provides a bridge to enable students to make the transition from Junior to Senior cycle.
It encourages personal and social development and recognises the need for students to grow in independence. The course aims to promote maturity, improve skills and educate through experience of adult and working life.
During the year students sample a wide range of core and choice subjects.
Students also get to experience a wide range of modules including:
- First Aid
- Driving and Road Safety
- Planning and Time Management, Sports Leadership
- Technology Course
- Wheelchair Basketball
- Poetry
- Journalism and Creative Writing Law Course
TRIPS AND EXTRA CURRICULAR ACTIVITIES
A number of trips are organised throughout the year including outdoor pursuits at Killary Adventure Centre, leadership programme, team-bonding activities, Water Safety Programmes, open day visits to Universities, educational field trips and there is also the option of a foreign trip abroad.
Work experience and community involvement also form an integral part of the Transition Year Programme.
