Music

Music is a huge part of the school community here in Mary Immaculate Secondary School. Music is offered to all first-year students as a taster subject. It is run as a short course for Junior Cycle where our music teacher, Ms Dunne, will teach students music theory, appreciation and to play the ukulele. Students in this course are given the opportunity to get involved in lots of music making activities. Music is also run as an option for the leaving cert exam, with the 50% practical being a wonderful opportunity for students to gain recognition for the musical talents so many of them possess.

Students are also given plenty of opportunities to showcase their musical talents in the school with our annual Christmas carol service, well-being concert and TY musical. Participation in musical events within the school is heavily encouraged, and students beautifully enrich our celebrations and events with the addition of live music. Even during these strange times students have still come together online, perform music together virtually. We hope to hold a few events this year to help to encourage students to explore different ways of making music and to give them the opportunity to continue to express themselves through the arts.
