The Feast of the Epiphany - Nollaig na mBan

I wish to warmly welcome back everyone to a new term and a new decade. Today is a special day. We along with many Christians around the world annually celebrate the Feast of the Epiphany on January 6th. It is a public holiday in many countries and marks two events in Jesus Christ’s life, according to the Bible. The first event was when the three wise men, or kings, visited infant Jesus. The second event was when St John the Baptist baptised Jesus.

In celebration of the feast of the Epiphany in Ireland, January 6th is marked by Nollaig na mBan or Women's Little Christmas. On this day it is the tradition in Ireland for the women to get together and enjoy their own Christmas, while the men folk stay at home and handle all the chores!

January 6th is also a Holy day of Obligation and mass in Lisdoonvarna parish church is at 11.30 am. Students are invited to attend if they so wish.
