National Success at Oireachtas na Samhna in Killarney

Last weekend nine of our students from Céim ar Chéim went to Oireachtas na Samhna in Killarney.

As many as 10,000 people attended this cultural event which celebrates Ireland’s traditional music, art and storytelling traditions. This event provides a platform for the traditional arts, the festival plays an important role in Irish cultural life and affords an opportunity for people from Gaeltacht areas and Irish speakers from non-Gaeltacht areas to come together.

Mary Immaculate Students Shona Brody, Maisie Morgan, Amy Shanahan, Laura Dunne, Caoimhe Mc Carthy, Bethan Marsh, Áine Kelly, Alisha Brody and Niamh Collins all took part in Sean Nós dancing competitions over the weekend.

Congratulations in particular to our competition winners :

Amy Shanahan - damhsa ar an Sean nós faoi 12 champion.

Bethan Marsh - damhsa ar a Sean nós faoi 14 2nd place.

Bethan also won the fiddle competition and is the U16 Oireachtas Fiddle Champion
