Last Friday February 28th 2020 in the Falls Hotel our Fifth and TY students were invited to attend a presentation of awards for their essays submitted to the local North Clare Mental Health Essay Writing competition. Dylan Egan a fifth year student of Mary Immaculate was the over all winner of the competition taking first place and receiving 200 euro. Emma Haran also a fifth year student took second place receiving 150 euro and we had runner up prizes of 20 euro awarded to two other fifth year students Sarah Mc Namara and Eva Harrington and also a transition year student Aisling O Brien.

Many thanks to our English teachers Ms Gallery, Ms Bradshaw and Ms Prince for their guidance and promotion of such an important topic in all our lives, especially in the lives of our young people. Mental health Ireland through competitions like this, raise awareness and conversation around Mental Health issues and in doing so aim to normalise conversation around the promotion of positive mental health.

Mary Immaculate Secondary School also received a prize of 100 euro for best over all school which Principal Mona Hynes very gratefully accepted. The school is always actively promoting endeavours that promote wellbeing and positive mental health. Talking and addressing ways to mind our mental health is always at the forefront of what we strive to do as a school.
