Mary Immaculate Secondary School is pleased to confirm that the Department of Education has notified the school of the acquisition of a circa 7-acre site for the development of a new school building, located in Lisdoonvarna town.
This significant milestone is the result of four years of dedicated work by the principal, staff, parents, Board of Management, and the wider North Clare community. We are sincerely grateful to all who have supported the school throughout this process.
We would like to extend our heartfelt thanks to former Minister for Education, Norma Foley, for her consistent support of the project. We also wish to acknowledge the now Minister for Education Helen McEntee, who met with Principal Mona Hynes in May to discuss the importance of this development for the region. Our appreciation also goes to both local and national public representatives who have supported the school’s vision over the past four years.
The next step in this process will be to secure planning permission for the new school building. This will bring us closer to delivering a modern, inclusive, and future-ready educational facility for our students and the broader community.
The project has been included in the Department of Education’s ADAPT Programme—Accelerated Delivery of Architectural Planning and Tendering.
Being part of the ADAPT Programme places the project on an accelerated path to delivery. We are grateful to the Building Unit of the Department of Education for their continued support in helping to realise this vision.
The new school building will be transformational for North Clare. It will support our mission of educational excellence, inclusivity, and community engagement, and will help ensure long-term sustainability.
Mary Immaculate Secondary School is a proud Mercy school, and in this, our 75th year, we are especially grateful to our patron CEIST for their continued support and the ongoing legacy of the Sisters of Mercy Lisdoonvarna, ensuring that our school will continue to flourish for another 75 years and beyond.
This is a significant step forward for Mary Immaculate Secondary School and for the future of education and rural sustainability in North Clare.
