Clare County Writing Success: A Day in My Life

Congratulations to the talented Mary Immaculate Secondary School young writers of the future.
Clare County Writing Success: A Day in My Life

Despite school building closure and students working remotely on schoolwork and assignments, it is clear that our students’ creativity in Mary Immaculate was far from restricted.

When Clare County Library launched a Young Writers’ competition in the middle of the lock down, it was an opportunity to show case our talented writers to the county. The richness of our First and Second Year English students writing ability was represented and acknowledged. Students were required to write a 700 words essay on A Day in My Life, they entered their pieces with flare, honesty and creativity.

The writings were independently judged a by a very successful award winning Galway based Children’s, Teen, Screen and Fiction Writer, Patricia Forde .

In the 13 to 15 Category, our Second Year students: Aidan Kelly, Eve Healy, Emily Moloney, Ella Brody and James Costello First Year were all shortlisted.

The overall winner was also one of our second year students, Jack Rush, for his letter to his future self, entitled: A Day in My Life.

The shortlisted and winning entries are all posted on The competition was one of a range of activities by Clare County Council that is part of the government’s In This Together campaign.

Well done to all our students and their English teachers, Ms Prince and Ms Bradshaw.

Best wishes and Stay Safe, Ms Hynes.
