CSO John Hooper Statistical Poster Competition Awards Ceremony

14-October-24

The 𝗖𝗦𝗢 𝗦𝘁𝘂𝗱𝗲𝗻𝘁 𝗔𝘄𝗮𝗿𝗱𝘀 will take place on Tuesday, 15 October. This year the ceremony will take place at an event hosted in Croke Park. The promotion of statistical literacy among young people as well as statistical usage to inform opinion underpins the core of the CSO’s Educational Outreach program.

As part of the CSO statistical awareness program, we organise the annual 𝗝𝗼𝗵𝗻 𝗛𝗼𝗼𝗽𝗲𝗿 𝗦𝘁𝗮𝘁𝗶𝘀𝘁𝗶𝗰𝗮𝗹 𝗣𝗼𝘀𝘁𝗲𝗿 𝗖𝗼𝗺𝗽𝗲𝘁𝗶𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻.

The John Hooper Statistical Poster Competition is one of Ireland’s most respected and prestigious school competitions, and it provides an outstanding opportunity for students across the island of Ireland to showcase their data analysis and interpretation skills.

This year four students from Mary Immaculate Secondary School won second and third prize in the competition. Eilidh Lawless, and Caoimhe McCarthy John Hooper third place, will give a presentation on “Does water temperature affect the righting ability of two species of starfish (Asterias rubens and Asterina gibbosa)?

Nicole Bujnowska and Hannah Vaughan, John Hooper second place will give a presentation on “An Investigation into the Covering Behaviour of the Purple Sea Urchin”.

Following their presentations the students will be presented with their certificates by Jennifer Banim, Director General, Central Statistics Office.

Congratulations to the students on their fantastic success and their mentor John Sims.

Look out for photos from the event on this website over the next few days.
